Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps Manassas, VA

If your home’s HVAC set-up includes a heat pump, you know what it’s like to save energy while enjoying even, comfortable temperatures. But heat pumps are not just for cooler months. They also provide high-efficiency cooling when the weather warms up—and they control indoor humidity for optimal year-round comfort. Trust Parrish Services to install, replace, repair or maintain your high-efficiency VA heat pump

Unlike furnaces and traditional HVAC equipment, heat pumps don’t burn fuel to generate heat. Instead, they use refrigeration technology to achieve your climate goals. In warm weather, circulating refrigerant captures indoor heat and exhausts it outside. Unlike air conditioners, which primarily remove heat from inside a home, heat pumps offer both heating and cooling capabilities, making them a more eco-friendly choice. Modern, energy-efficient heat pump systems also include advanced cooling systems that transfer air to provide comfortable indoor temperatures while combating humidity-related issues. During winter, the process is reversed. Heat is extracted from outdoor air and used to warm your home.

HVAC Gauges Connected To An Outdoor Unit

Energy-efficient heating and cooling are measured with seasonal energy efficiency ratios (SEER). In climates where heat pumps are used mostly for cooling, higher SEER ratings are preferred. For cold weather use, a higher heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF) is recommended. Heat pumps work best in temperate climates without drastic temperature swings, but many Northern VA residents find these devices quite effective for supplemental heating.

Heat pump services in Manassas with an ENERGY STAR rating have a SEER of 18 to 27.5 and an HSPF of 8.5 to 12.5. While these units cost more upfront than other heating devices, their superior efficiency is often worth the expense. For economy and value, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) recommends buying a heat pump with a SEER of 15 or greater and a minimum HSPF of 8.5.

Common Home Heat Pump Systems

Follow these tips to get the best heat pump performance:

  • Set the thermostat and forget it. A heat pump maintains even temperatures as it switches back and forth from heating to cooling. Northern VA residents usually require a backup heating source when temperatures drop below freezing.
  • Perform seasonal maintenance twice per year, before and after the cooling season.
  • Consult a professional to be sure heat pumps and other HVAC equipment are properly sized for your Northern VA home.
  • Clean heat pump filters frequently and clear debris from outside condensing units.

What are the benefits of using a heat pump?

Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, offering energy-efficient climate control year-round. They’re eco-friendly, reduce energy consumption, and help manage indoor humidity, making them a versatile choice for homes in moderate climates.

How does a heat pump work in winter?

In winter, heat pumps extract warmth from the outdoor air and transfer it indoors to heat your home. This efficient process uses refrigeration technology, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating systems.

Are mini-split heat pumps better for ductless homes?

Yes, ductless mini-split heat pumps are ideal for homes without ductwork. They’re easy to install, provide room-specific temperature control, and offer energy-efficient heating and cooling with no need for extensive HVAC modifications.

How can I improve my heat pump’s efficiency?

Regular maintenance is key. Clean or replace filters often, clear debris from outdoor units, and schedule seasonal inspections. For tailored advice, reach out to us for expert guidance and professional maintenance services.
